Region No-VII (Janakpur) began their Women’s National campaign with a 50-run victory over Region No-III (Kathmandu) at the Tribhuvan University grounds on Wednesday.
Electing to bat first, a solid opening partnership between Sobha Ale and Anuradha Chaudhary lifted Janakpur to 154-9 in 40 overs. Kathmandu were 104 all out in 33.2 overs with a collective bowling effort from Janakpur’s three frontline bowlers.
Kathmandu total was bolstered by 35 extra runs, while Sarad Wagle was the only batswoman to stay long at the crease with some runs on the board making 26 off 50 hitting just a boundary. Sushma Shrestha (10) and opener Kanchan Shrestha (nine) were their next top scorers.
Saraswoti Chaudhary (3-21), Anuradha (3-12) and Shanti Chaudhary (3-15) shared nine wickets between them for Janakpur. Santoshi Chaudhary also picked up one wicket.
Earlier, Sobha and Anuradha combined for a 91-run opening wicket stand which proved decisive for Janakpur. Mamta Chaudhary (15) and Urmila Chaudhary (10) were their only remaining batswomen to make runs in double figures, while 38 runs came from sundries.
Anuradha made a match-high 41 off 71 with three boundaries and Sobha’s 60-ball 33 read two hits to the fence. Suman Khatiwada picked up two wickets for Kathmandu with Geeta Chudal, Kamala Rai, Sangeeta Gauchan and Sajani Shrestha taking one each.
