Region-VII (Janakpur) another accolade to their age group trophy cabinet lifting the Wai Wai U-16 Girls’ National Cricket Tournament in Sarlahi on Wednesday.
In a low-scoring final match at the Hariwan grounds, Janakpur defeated Region-IX (Dhangadhi) by 10 runs for their second age group title after they won the U-19 tournament two years back.
Electing to bat first, Janakpur made 115-6 in 20 overs with Mamta Chaudhary doing the bulk of scoring. Dhangadi innings closed at 105-4 in 20 overs.
Bindu Rawal top scored for Dhangadi making a run-a-ball 42 not out hitting five boundaries. Kabita Joshi added a quickfire 29 off 13 but her effort alone was not enough. Kabita hit three fours. Chandani Shaha (10) was their next best scorer.
Karishma Dhamala picked up 2-9 from her four-over spell with Mamta also picking up a wicket. Earlier, player-of-the-match Mamta was indebted for Janakpur’s title triumph making 44 off 39 balls. She clobbered four boundaries.
Anuradha Chaudhary (15), Aarati Chaudhary (12) and Sonu Magar (11) were their remaining batswomen to make runs in double figures. Kavita Kunwar picked up 2-11 from four overs for Dhangadi. Poonam Parswan and Menuka Kunar also had one scalp apiece.
