‘Its one of the tournaments that did not go our way’

Coach Pubudu Dassanayake

We are moving to the play offs winless what went wrong?

PUBUDU : ” We did some mistakes especially at crucial times like dropping catches. In the past some of the top players like Paras covered it up in the earlier tournaments but this time most of the top players did not perform. Gyanendra batted really well today. We needed that sort of innings in the earlier games. We did not have luck in the tournament. Its one of the tournaments that did not go our way. It was a great experience for the boys at the highest level we have ever reached. ”

Even your bowlers whom you banked a lot struggled in the conditions here?

PUBUDU- The new bowlers must have learnt at this level that bowling one bad ball in the over can cost a lot. Consistency is one of the key things at this level and they are getting that experience now.

What are the plans for the playoffs?

We are looking forward to it and we will press hard. We are going to the world cup and cannot afford to be demoralized by losing matches. We will try to finish as high as possible.

Skipper Paras Khadka

We are returning winless what went wrong today?

PARAS- We did not bowl well though it was a batting track. We gave 30 odd runs more that that was well within our reach. Fielding wise also we made some mistakes which made the difference in the end. Batting wise apart from Gyanendra no one else really clicked. It has been that type of tournament for us nothing has gone our way.

How much did you miss the second seamer in you to support Sompal?

PARAS: Yes I was the second seamer in the team and my injury destroyed the balance of the team. But still we did not play to our potential in this tournament.

Was the target a bit too big ?

PARAS: May be but it was a batting track and it was full of runs. We were well on the course. But unfortunately we could not pull it off.

How will you like to finish the tournament?

PARAS: We have to be positive till the last match. Yes we aim to finish 7th now in the playoff for which we have to win the next two matches. We have seen the highs and lows of Nepal cricket in a month’s time from T20 World Cup qualification to this winless streak.

There was some extra enthusiasm in the team today. Are we getting back on the track?

PARAS : Yes we tried to but still we are not quite there. Hope we are gradually getting back to winning ways.
