Indian pace bowler Ishant Sharma is out of the World Cup due to a knee injury. Ishant will return back to Indianext week.
The tall fast bowler has been injured for more than one month. He last bowled during the Boxing Day Test inMelbourne in December before he was picked for the Tri-series ODI in Sydney against Australia. The match was abandoned due to rain.
Ishant has been replaced by right-arm medium pacer Mohit Sharma. Mohit is travelling to Australia with the Indian squad. World Cup Event Technical Committee approved the replacement of Ishant.
India, however, had better news regarding the fitness of batsman Rohit Sharma and pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Rohit played only one ODI in the Tri-series against Australia and England due to hamstring niggles.
A left-ankle injury had kept Bhuvneshwar out of the first three Tests in Australia and a recurrence of the injury meant he played only two matches in the Tri-series. Mohit and Dhawal Kulkarni, who were part of the squad for the Tri-series, have stayed back in Australia and trained with the full World Cup squad in Adelaide on Saturday.
