Indu ignored as Rubina named skipper

Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) all rounder Indu Verma was ignored as the Cricket Association of Nepal on Wednesday announced 15-member squad for the ACC Women’s Premier to be held in Thailand.

Indu has been a regular member of the team and has impressed a lot with her all round skills and athleticism.

She was the lone performer from Bhairahawa during the recently concluded Women’s National Cricket Tournament held in Kathmandu last week.

Indu represented Nepal in the 2011 Women’s Twenty20 Championship and 2012 ACC Women’s Championship.

The team also missed experienced and influential all rounder Nary Thapa who has been ruled out at least two months due to a knee injury.

Nary – the first to make century in women’s cricket – fractured her left leg metatarsal bone during the Women’s National final against the Nepal APF Club.

Nary was named the best batswoman and player-of-the-series in the Women’s National. Her loss is also a serious blow to Nepali squad which is led by Rubina Chhetri.

Mamta Thapa has been named Rubina’s deputy while other members in the squad included Sonu Khadka, Rekha Rawal, Sobha Ale, Mamta Chaudhary, Saraswoti Chaudhary, Kabita Gautam, Neera Rajopadhyaya, Sarita Magar, Sita Rana Magar, Kajol Shrestha, Karuna Bhandari and Trishna Singh.

While best bowler of the Women’s National Trishna managed to find her place in the squad, emerging player of the year Jyoti Pandey along with another centurion Anjali Chand was named as reserve that also includes Janaki Bhatta and Rashmi Sharma.

Nepal will meet Iran in the opening day of the tournament and will play Thailand, China, Hong Kong and Bhutan in the February 11-18 event which for the first time have been made a round robin league.
