World Cup 2011 winners India reached the semi-final of Champions trophy after they won the match against West Indies by eight wickets with still 65 balls remaining.
A brilliant batting century from Shikhar Dhawan and a five-wicket from Ravindra Jadeja took India easy win. With the win India’s arch-rival Pakistan is out of the semi-final race. And the next team to reach the semi-final in the group will be decided by the match between South Africa and West Indies.
Indian captain MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bowl first. Bhuvnesh Kumar made captain’s decision right as he took the wicket of danger man Chris Gayle when West Indies were 25 runs in 5th over and Gayle was on 21 personal runs in the board.
As Jadeja was brought to bowl West Indies team started to collapse as they were getting recovered after the wicket of Gayle. As Man-of-the-match Jadeja took 5 wickets giving 36 runs in his allocated 10 overs West Indies made 233 run in loss of Nine wickets in their 50 overs.
India started chasing the target of 233 runs to make their way to semi-final. Opener Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma made a brilliant start to make sure to win the match. Rohit was out of Sunil Narine after making 52 runs of 56 deliveries.
Though Rohit Sharma was out making just 22 runs Dinesh Kartik and Dhawan took india to semi-finale with the partnership of 109 runs for the third wicket. Dhawan who made 102 not out in 107 balls hit 10 boundaries and a six, while Kartik scored 51 not out in just 54 ball to take India to semis with 8 wicket remaining and 65 balls remaining.
India will play their last match of the group against their arch-rival Pakistan in 15th June at Birmingham.
