India lift Emerging Teams Cup

India U-23 crushed Pakistan U-23 by nine wickets to win the ACC Emerging Teams Cup title at the Kallang grounds in Singapore on Sunday.

After losing the Group ‘A’ game in the league stages by three wickets, there was a chance for Pakistan to avenge that loss in style but the story was completely different as the match unfolded.

Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals before the whole team was dismissed for 159 in 47overs. India outplayed their archrivals in all departments finishing at 160-1 in 33.4 overs. Opener Lokesh Rahul laid the foundation in team’s comprehensive victory making 93 runs from just 107 balls hitting 11 fours and one six.

After losing Umukt Chand (15) with 28 runs on the board, Rahul shared an unbroken 132-run stand for the second wicket with Mapreet Juneja who was 51 not out from 77 balls. Mapreet hit three boundaries and a six. Raza Hassan took the only Indian wicket to fall.

Earlier, Pakistan were reduced to 34-2 inside 10 overs before Umar Waheed and Usman Salahuddin (15) tried to rebuild their innings with a 54-run stand. But after the dismissal of Salahuddin, Pakistan were left tattering at 107-9.

Tailenders Usman Qadir and Ehsad Adil helped Pakistan at least put some runs on the board with a 52-run stand. Qadir made 33 off 32 with four boundaries and a six, while Adil made 20 not out from 26 balls with one boundary and a maximum. Waheed top scored for Pakistan with a 64-ball 41 – an innings studded with four boundaries.

Baba Aparajith took three wickets for India, while Sandeep Sharma and Surya Kumar Yadav snapped two wickets apiece. Shaiman Anwar of the UAE was adjudged the man-of-the-series. Anwar made two centuries and one half century in the tournament.
