In spite of century from former captain and middle order batsman Mahela Jayawardene India won the third One Day International match against Sri Lanka by six wickets in the match held at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday. With this win India lead the five match ODI series by 3-0.
With the century Jayawardene also became the fifth batsman in the world to score more than 12 thousands runs in One Day International cricket after master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Pointing, Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara.
With the help of Jayawardene’s 118 runs and Tilakratne Dilshan’s 53 runs Sri Lanka were all out making 242 runs in 48.2 overs. Jayawardene who reached his 17th ODI century was elected as the man of the match.
Chasing the target of 243 runs India reached India finished the game in 44.1 overs losing their four wickets. Shikhar Dhawan was the highest run scorer for India who made 91 runs in 79 balls with eight fours and a six. Likewise Captain Virat Kohli also made 53 runs. Kohli also became the fastest player to reach six thousands runs in ODI.
Now India and Sri Lanka will meet in the fourth One Day International on November 13 at Kolkata.
