National team coach Pubudu Dassanayake said the inclusion of Anil Mandal and Mahesh Chhettri in the Twenty20 squad for World Qualifiers has reasons.
Anil and Mahesh both are associated more with 50-over game as both cricketers take time to settle at the pitch to convert into big innings. “If we talk about Anil, he is more of a 50-over player but he has improved a lot in the last two or three weeks,” Dassanayake toldcricketingnepal.com on Monday.
“He needs few more improvement for the Twenty20 game but what he has been doing for the last one month is pretty good. We had to look through some other perspective as well as we don’t have Prithu (Baskota) and we required eight batsmen in the team and under theseconditions, Anil is the best person for us,” added the coach.
According to the coach Mahesh too is going through the same situationas Anil has been into. “Mahesh has transformed himself in the last one month,” said Dassanayake about the wicket-keeping opener who slammed three half centuries in the recently concluded Pepsi StandardChartered National Twenty20.
“Mahesh is a man who has transformed himself very well to fit in our system. Since, we only have one wicket-keeper in Subash, Mahesh will be a good back-up for us. I want Mahesh to show his best and all will depend on how he fares in our India tour,” he added.
Nepal are leaving for a 10-day practice tour of New Delhi under the invitation from Delhi District Cricket Association. Mahesh had been a regular opener and wicket-keeper of the national team until Subash replaced him and cemented his spot that shadowed the former despite hewas called a technically sound batsman.
