Hosts Sudur Paschimanchal Academy (SPA) entered the quarter-finals of the fourth SPA Cup defeating Jagannath HS School of Baitadi by 46 runs on Tuesday.
Electing to bat first in the final opening round match of the tournament that was reduced to 16-over-a-side, SPA made 152-4 riding on half century from Subash Khakurel. Sharad Vesawkar then displayed his part time bowling skills picking up 4-29 to restrict Jagannath to 106-8 in 16.
Dipendra Chand was the lone fighter for Jagannath making a run-a-ball 29 with three fours and a six, while Rabindra Chand (18), Surendra Chand (15) and Kishor Wagela (13) were their other batsmen to make runs in double figures.
Apart from Sharad, Dipendra Airee, Bikram Thagunna, Bhuwan Karki and Alpes Ramjani also took a wicket each for the hosts.
SPA’s total was built around opener Subash Khakurel who made an unbeaten 68 runs on his way to share two crucial partnerships. Subash shared 57 runs for the first wicket with Subendu Pandey who made 30 off 19 with three fours and two sixes.
After the departure of Subendu, Subash shared another 64 with his national team mate Sharad to put on a challenging total on the board. Sharad made 25 off 21 hitting three boundaries and a six. Subash hit five boundaries and four sixes in his 49-ball knock.
Kamal Airee, Basanta Khatri, Kishor Wagela and Prashant Marku had one scalp apiece for Jagannath.
