HCE, NCE roll on in University Twenty20

Himalayan College of Engineering (HCE) crushed KIST Medical College ‘A’ by 46 runs and National College of Engineering (NCE) edged Kantipur International College (KIC) by eight runs in the first Inter University Twenty20 Cricket Tournament on Wednesday.

Held at the Kathmandu University grounds in Dhulikhel, HCE made a challenging 162-8 after some fireworks from Babin Ghimire early in their innings. KIST ‘A’ were 116 all out in 18.3 overs.

Jeevan Bista, Samaj Poudel and Amit Rawal took two wickets each to derail KIST ‘A’ chase for whom Ashish Singh top scored with 27 off 29 balls hitting four boundaries. Prabesh Khatri made 20 and Shashi Kumar Yadav (18) was the remaining notable contributor in KIST ‘A’ innings.

Babin left KIST ‘A’ bowlers out of clue hammering 41 runs from just 18 deliverie. He clobbered six boundaries and two sixes. Samaj was the performer of the day as his 20-ball 30 helped to lift HCE to a huge total. Man-of-the-match Samaj hit four boundaries.

Pramod Lamsal also chipped in with a 23-ball 27 that included three fours and one maximum. Suman Basel and Bijay Yadav took one wicket each for the loing side.

NCE, meanwhile, survived KIC scare defending their 120 all out after KIC could only manage 112 in a match that went till the last ball in both innings.

Rupesh Khatri made 32 off 31 for KIC with four boundaries and Rahul Kunwar (18) was their only remaining batsman to make runs in double figures. Dinesh Bhatta and Saurav Tiwari took two wickets each for NCE.

NCE also managed to build on a modest total owing to a composed 38 runs off 45 deliveries from Sagar Bhattarai. His innings included four hits to the fence. Sunil Rijal (23) and Dinesh Bhatta (16) also contributed some invaluable runs to the total. Prashant Pandey and Prem Chauhal had two scalps apiece for KIC.
