Hari Bahadur Chauhan and Rohit Kumar Paudel’s heroic performances guided Tribhuwan Army Club (TAC) into the final of the Manmohan Memorial Cup One Day National on Wednesday with a six-wicket victory over Province 1.
Electing to field first, TAC bundled out Province 1 for a below-par 109 in 25.4 overs after Hari picked up four wickets. The Armymen returned and took just 19.2 overs to reach the target but not before losing four order wickets.
TAC will play against Nepal Police Club on Saturday in the final. NPC had overcome Province 7 by 200 runs in the first semi-final on Thursday.
Hari destroyed oppositions’ batting-line returning with economical and destructive bowling figures of 4-9 from five overs. Province 1 were still in the game at 89-5 but Hari came in the 19th over and picked up three wickets leaving them reeling at 89-8.
Beginning with the dismissal of Mukund Yadav (17), Hari sent back Dipesh Kandel (duck) and Firdosh Ansari (zero) in the second and fourth ball. He also dismissed hard-hitting Siddhant Lohani (six) in a match-turning bowling spell.
Bikram Sob, Jitendra Mukhiya, Sushan Bhari and Rohit Paudel also had a scalp each. Ravi Roy added maximum 22 runs from 27 balls for Province 1 hitting four boundaries. Skipper Pushpa Thapa’s 16-ball 19 included two boundaries and a six. Mukund Yadav (17) and Meenash Thapa (12) were other batsmen to score in double digits for losing side.
TAC were later reduced to 25-4 in six overs before Rohit led the winning recovery with Rajesh Pulami. He shared 86 unbeaten runs for the fifth wicket and made a 44-ball 58 not out. Rohit struck seven fours and three sixes.
Rajesh faced 43 balls for his unbeaten 23 runs that included one boundary. Manoj Mandal took two wickets for Province 1.
