Gambhir to lead against Nepal in one match

Indian batting star Gautam Gambhir has been confirmed to lead one of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) teams when Nepal visit New Delhi for a 10-day practice tour.

Sanjeev Pandey – a member of the Cricket Association of Nepal – confirmed that Gambhir will lead one of the three DDCA teams Nepal will get to play during their tour. Nepal are set to play seven practice matches in the tour which comes under the High Performance Programme formed by CAN for national team’s preparation for the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 and ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.

The DDCA teams will be combined of some of the best players from the Indian capital city who have a vast experience, informed Pandey. “Apart from the matches against DDCA teams, we will also play two or three matches against Indian Railways which will also include Ranji trophy playing cricketers,” informed Pandey.

“The other teams for the rest of the matches will only be confirmed after watching how we fare in the first five matches. We have been told that they (DDCA) cannot give a strong team straight away,” added Pandey who is also a member in the HPP.

Gambhir has currently been out of the Indian team due to a poor run of form. The Southpaw, who has not played with the Indian national team since January, 27, 2013 has 11 centuries in ODI and nine in Tests. He had struck a match-winning 97 runs against Sri Lanka during the 2011 World Cup final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
