Nepal will host a four-nation One-day cricket tournament involving national teams from the hosts Nepal and Singapore along with two top level clubs from New Delhi in the five-day tournament set for December 2-7.
Zohra International Pvt Ltd — a company owned by former national team member Amir Akhtar — is organising the league-cum-knock out tournament which will be participated in by Air India and Delhi Wanderers from New Delhi.
The tournament has been given the name “Journey To The World Cup” as it is organised just ahead of national team’s participation the 2014 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier to be held in New Zealand in January.
According to the organisers the two Indian teams have assured of including India Premier League and Ranji Trophy competing players. The top two teams are round robin league will play in the final. Tribhuvan University Sadium and Pulchowk Engineering College grounds will share the matches.
Binod Das — former national team skipper, NCA coach and the Director of the tournament organising committee said the tourament will be fruitful for the national team.
“We were trying to bring other teams as well but even playing against Singapore national team along with Indian teams will still be a good tournament for us. It would be perfect event for the national team to mould themselves in 50-over format after finishing the ICC World Tweny20 Qualifiers,” said Das during a press meet today.
Sagarmatha Cement has sponsored the tournament whose estimated expenses in around five million rupees. The sponsorship amount was not revealed. The national team will open the tournament with match against Air India on December 2.
While matches between the invited teams are free to watch, the ticket prices for Nepal’s games have been set for Rs 200 for normal stands and Rs 1000 for VIPs. Akhtar said the event will be celebrated as cricket festival with Robin and the New Revolution giving live performances and food stalls and other entertaining stuffs.
