Laxman India’s former batting star VVS Laxman is visiting Nepal on December 2, the organisers of the Sagarmatha Cement Journey World Cup confirmed on Wednesday.
Amir Akhtar, Managing Director of Zohra International Pvt Ltd which is organising the Journey to World Cup four-national 50-over cricket tournament informed Laxman will land with Air India team – one of the sides to compete in December 2-7 event.
Laxman is visiting following an invitation from the tournament organisers and coordination from Embassy of India. Laxman is going to be fourth Indian cricketing star to visit Nepal after Mahendra Singh Dhoni (2012), Kapli Dev (1999) and Sunil Gavaskar (2005).
“Laxman, however, is not playing for the Air India team since he is supposed to join the India-South Africa series as a commentator, informed Akhtar. While his full itinerary in Nepal’s one-day visit is not yet disclose, he will meet and interact with Nepali cricketers and watch the Nepal versus Air India match in the opening day at the Tribhuvan University Stadium.
Laxman – who is mostly known for his endurable innings in Test cricket – has played 134 Test matches scoring 8781 runs with 17 hundreds and 56 half centuries from 225 innings. He feature in 86 one-day internationals in India scoring 2338 runs with six centuries and 10 half-centuries.
