The national cricket team’s impressive performance in the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh have provided national team footballers with a lot of encouragement as the team left today for a friendly match against Yemen to be held in Doha on Tuesday.
“The cricket team’s impressive showing in Bangladesh is of course a huge encouragement for us to do better,” national football team skipper Sagar Thapa told reporters after receiving a farewell at the Dasharath Stadium.
Nepal had impressed the entire globe putting in an impressive display where they routed Hong Kong and toppled now-settled Associate giants Afghanistan by nine runs. They lost to Test playing side and hosts Bangladesh by eight wickets but conjured up a lot of reputation playing sensibly.
The cricketers’ historic achievement also means a pressure of the football team skipper. “At a time when cricket team is doing so good, the pressure will be definitely be on us. The entire nation is on a celebratory mood because of cricket and we would like to give continuity to that,” said Sagar.
The entire national football team including coaches Raju Kaji Shakya and Upendra Man Singh had shown their support to national cricket team during the World Twenty20 by wearing cricket jersey.
