The Nepali Cricket Fan Club (NCFC) on Thursday honoured the ACC Emerging Teams Cup preparing national squad and the ICC World Cricket League Division-III title winning team. NCFC — one of the most active fan groups in Nepali sports fraternity afer rising from a facebook page — gave Rs 151,151 to the team.
Amidst a program that had actors Nisha Adhikari and Jeevan Luitel as the guests, NCFC handed over the cheque to national team skipper Paras Khadka.
Paras acknowledged the honour from the fans after getting a huge cheer as he reached the podium to speak. “You fans have been one of the reasons why we have been playing cricket. Your support has always encouraged us to do better. We have a good coach and a team and with your support we hopeful can reach the World Cup,” said Paras.
Coach Pubudu Dassanayake said fans were the biggest achievement for Nepali cricket. “I appreciate the way fans have been doing things here,” said the coach. “There have been so much of negative things. People were thinking that I set the target too high but we have already crossed the halfway stage. There is still a long way to go and hopeful we will meet again and that will be the time when reach the World Cup,” said Dassanayake.
NCFC President Birat Raya, Secretary Anna Bhola, Nisha, Jeevan among others honoured the players and those who supported the club.
