Edward handed Hughes bat and jersey to Sherpa

Chhurim Sherpa is all set to take Australian cricket player Phillip Hughes bat and jersey to top of the world Mount Everest. Sherpa was handed bat and jersey of Hughes by Australian Cricket Board Chairman, Walley Edwards during a program organized at Kathmandu by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

 

Sherpa who holds a World Record of climbing Everest twice in a week will take jersey and bats of Hughes who died on November 27 last year after being struck by a bouncer during Shefield Shelid match.

 

Speaking in the program, Shepa said, “This is a very proud moment for me to take Hughes bat and jersey to top of the world and believes she will successfully conquer the summit.”

 

Sherpa will leave to Lukla to start the campaign of taking Hughes bats and jersey to top of the world from April 15. She will return back to Kathmandu on May 31 after conquering Everest. But her schedule will be changed depending upon the weather condition in Everest region.

Wally Edwards, Chairman of Cricket Australia thanked Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) for organizing such a noble idea to take Hughes bat and jersey to Everest. “Nepal was the first country to offer for organizing a tribute match for Hughes and taking his bat and jersey to Everest,” said Edwards. Edwards was happy to get this tournament held in Himalayan country and also read the letter sent by Hughes family for the event and handed Sherpa with cap of Australian cricket team.

 

Tim Anderson, Golbal Development Manager of International Cricket Council who was here in Nepal to play Phil Hughes Tribute Match from team Red praised the initiative taken by CAN. He also promised to bring International players to Nepal from next occasions.

 

Likewise speaking in during the program, Deepak Koirala, Acting President of CAN, Deepak Koirala said idea of organizing Phil Hughes Tribute Match will also help bring Nepal in cricketing world.  “We are thankful to Cricket Australia and family of Phil Hughes who let Nepal organize this tournament. I am confident that Sherpa will finish her expedition successfully and boost global fame of Nepal,” said Koirala.

 

Managing Director of Choudhary Group and founder of Bashant Choudhary Foundation, Bashant Choudhary along with Bhawana Ghimire, Chief Executive Officer of CAN was present in the program. Sherpa will also take flag of Bashant Choudhary Foundation to top of Everest.
