The second edition of the auction-based Dhangadhi Premier League is set for January 19 start.
Organisers Dhangadhi Cricket Academy (DCA) announced the tournament which will see at least seven to eight teams participating in the league-cum-knock out tournament. The first edition of the tournament was contested by six franchise teams from different cities.
The city-based franchise cricket has sent a new wave in Nepali cricket that introduced a nationwide auction of the cricketers. The tournament will be played at the SSP Cricket Grounds, the same venue that it was previously played.
The organisers also announced Ruslan, a product of Vijay Distillery, as the new title sponsors. As the title sponsors, Ruslan will provide DPL organisers with Rs 3.5 million. Ruslan will also be investing Rs 3.5 million in kind for the tournament promotion.
DCA Chairman Subash Bahadur Shahi and Jawalakhel Distillery Pvt Ltd Director Shreehar Shumsher Rana signed in the agreement during a programme on Sunday.
Previous title sponsors Sagarmatha Cement had given Rs 1.5 million. The champions of the tournament will get Rs 2.5 million, while the runners-up will get one million rupees. The third and four placed finishers will get Rs 300,000 and Rs 200,000.
The winners of the first edition — Team Chauraha Dhangadhi — and runners-up Biratnagar Kings had won themselves Rs 1.5 million and Rs 700,000.
The cash prize amount has been hiked by Rs 2.2 million meaning the total amount this time reached Rs 5 million. AP1 HD will broacast all the matches of the tournament live.
Meanwhile, organisers will also honour individuals contributing to Nepali cricket and another person having left impact in the national and international arena with Rs 100,000 in the memory of deceased Dhangadhi coach Arjun Khadka.
The total budge of the tournament is Rs 30 million.
