Dhoni’s Chennai to lock horns with Rohit’s Mumbai in IPL curtain raiser

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will duel in the curtain raiser of the Indian Premier League as the schedule for the September 19-November 10 tournament has been released on Sunday.

Dubai will host the majority of the league games with the Emirati capital getting 24 matches. Abu Dhabi will play host to 20 matches and Sharjah 12. The dates and venues for the playoffs are yet to be fixed.

MS Dhoni’s Chennai and Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai will lock horns at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The IPL is being held under strict health protocols after it was considered unsafe for India to have any mass gathering event.

UAE, however, is also supposed to organise a crowd-free tournament. All the participating teams’ players, officials and staffs have been kept in bio bubble. For the first time in the tournament, the final will be held on a weekday. November 10 is Tuesday.

Last week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had confirmed that 13 personnel including two players had tested positive for COVID-19. However, the board had not specified as to which team had how many confirmed cases. The identity of the players and staff was also not revealed.
