The recently appointed batting consultant of Nepali national team Monty Desai will join the cricketers in their UK tour that begins from June 24.
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) had appointed Desai, a big name in Indian coaching who works for Indian Premier League club Rajastha Royals, as the batting consultant for the upcoming ICC World Twentry20 Qualifiers that will be held in Ireland and Scotland from July 9-27.
Nepali team is currently based at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, India facilitated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). After completing their training, which also includes three Twenty20 matches against HPCA XI, on June 20, Nepali boys will return home before leaving for the UK on 23.
Coach Pubudu Dassanayake said Desai will go through visa procedures and join Nepal directly in UK where Nepal will play four practice matches against the local clubs in England before beginning their four-match bilateral Twenty20 International series against the Netherlands on June 30.
Dassanayake expects Desai to sharp his boys for an all-important tournament for Nepal. “Monty is working for RR for few years. He is well experienced especially in T20 version. His main job will be to improve our batting department with mental and tactical sides,” said Dassanayake to cricketingnepal.com from Dharamshala.
“I would want him to bring his RR experience to our dressing room and help the batters adjust to Twenty20 version,” added Dassanayake who said Desai will remain with the team until the ICC World Cricket League Championship matches against Scotland on July 29 and 31.
