Nepal’s star cricketer Sandeep Lamichane was released by Indian Premier League outfit Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, a move that could seem him feature in 2021 edition provided he is sold in the mini auction.
Sandeep was in the Delhi squad last season but couldn’t feature the entire season in the UAE which hosted the tournament behind closed doors as India couldn’t hold it owing to the Corona Virus effect.
Such was the intense competition within the Delhi squad that Sandeep never got a chance to play for the franchise.
Delhi entered the final of the 2020 season won by Mumbai Indians. With the BCCI already deciding on 10-team IPL for the 2021 season, Sandeep is certain to be one of the sought after cricketers considering his exploits in foreign leagues.
Every IPL outfit is supposed to field at least four foreigners in their squad. “Also released from the team are experienced seamer Mohit Sharma, England’s Jason Roy, Tushar Deshpande Alex Carey and Keemo paul.
Australian wicketkeeper-batsman had played three matches for Delhi in IPL 2020 after Rishabh Pant got injured for a brief period, Capitals said in a relase on Wednesday.
Sandeep is currently playing the Australian Big Bash League for the Hobart Hurricanes.
Having played for the Melbourne Stars last season, Sandeep has been toast in every other franchise leagues. He had also gone into the Indian Premier League in UAE following an impressive performance in the Caribbean Premier League.
