Defending champion Kolkata starts with win

Defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders starts with win over Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in the opening match of Indian Premier League (IPL) held at Eden Garden, Kolkata on Wednesday.


Chasing target of 169 runs, Kolkata was able to reach the target in 18.3 overs losing just three wickets. Kolkata’s win was made possible by Surya Kumar Yadav who made not out 46 runs in just 20 balls with five six and one four.


Apart from him Captain Gautam Gambir made 57 runs from 43 balls while Manish Panday contributed 40 runs from 26 balls. Corey Anderson, Harbhajan Singh and Jasprit Bumrah took a wicket each for Mumbai.


Earlier as Rohit Sharma and Corey Anderson, both made half century Mumbai was able to make 168 run in their allocated 20 overs with loss of three wickets.


Rohit Sharma who missed out his century remained not out on 98 runs from 65 balls with 12 fours and four six. Likewise Anderson made 55 runs from 41 balls. Man of the match Morney Morkel took two wickets in four overs conceding just 18 runs while Shaikb Al Hasan had a scalp.
