DCA gets NCA affiliation

KATHMAANDU :- Nepal’s only cricket academy — National Cricket Academy (NCA) – moved a step ahead in their plans of extending the facility across the country by giving affiliation to Dhangadhi Cricket Academy (DCA) for a period of one year. After opening up the facility in Kathmandu, NCA is looking forward to open branches nationwide and the tie-up with DCA comes as their first effort that will see the aspiring cricketers of Far-west enjoying the facility. Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Secretary Thakur Pahari — one of the three central committee members appointed by the cricket governing body to look after the facility — and DCA President Subash Bahadur Shahi signed an agreement at the Tribhuvan University Stadium today. Though both the parties are yet to finalise a complete agreement, CAN member Kiran Rana — also associated with the NCA — said the DCA would now operate various age group programmes at weekends. “They (DCA) have been directed to organise U-12, U-15 and U-19 programmes every Saturday for a period of one year,” said Rana. “NCA, from its part, will provide coaches and equipments to run the programmes,” Rana added. Rana said NCA was mulling to extend other brances in near future. “The affiliation to DCA is an experiment to see how people respond to the NCA facility. Considering the feasibility and possible smooth operation, we will work on to set up branches in Eastern Nepal and another in Bhairahawa,” said Rana. NCA coach and Nepal’s former national team skipper Binod Das said the DCA would organise NCA programmes for a period of one year. “They will bring the new talents to Kathmandu for further programmes,” the fast bowler added. DCA President Shahi was excited with the tie up. “We have been organising various programmes regularly. We are currently providing training to 50 cricketers aged 11 to 19. The affiliation with NCA has added another programme in our list and it will also help us to take players from our region to national level. The presence of NCA coaches, including Pubudu Dassanayake, will no doubt give our players a huge amount of confidence,” said Shahi.’
