Following an influential performance in the ICC World Twenty20, the national cricket team on Friday to witness a festive atmosphere at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
Nepal though failed to crashed out from the Qualifying Stage on a fraction of net run rate, they impressed millions with a disciplined and dedicated effort that saw them come out with a victory over Hong Kong and Afghanistan.
Nepalese particularly celebrated the victory over Afghanistan against whom Nepal have never won for the last one decade. Nepal last defeated Afghanistan in the ACC Trophy third place playoff final but after the war-ravaged country made a fairy tale progress in cricket cementing their status as Division-I team and have the experience of playing two World Twenty20, they were still in search of victory.
Nepal’s celebration over their Associate archrivals was evident when hundreds of people came out of their home and cheered for the team after the Paras Khadka-led side edged the Afghans by nine runs on Thursday.
Singing and dancing to the sounds of traditional panche baja and hailing their heroes, thousands of fans gathered outside TIA arrivals for hours. The environment was further ignited when Paras popped out of the exit at arrivals sending the fans into frenzy.
Enthusiastic fans rode on the mini truck which was actually brought for the cricketers, who later set off on almost an hour-long city tour in a Tata mobile. The tour ended at the team hotel in Naxal where cricketers interacted with the fans.
