The government on Monday honoured the national team cricketers with one million rupees reward for qualifying for the 2014 ICC World Twenty20.
Nepal had qualified for the World Twenty20 after a playoff victory over Hong Kong at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Novermber 27. All 15 members of the national team got one million rupees each, while coach Pubudu Dassanayake got Rs 500,000.
Assistant coach Dipendra Pratap Singh, technical analyst Sriram Somayajula, physiotherapist SV Subra and team manager Purna Lama got Rs 350,000 apiece.
The amount provided to each cricketers is so far the biggest in terms of team events. Olympian and ace taekwondo player Deepak Bista was provided with same amount after he won fourth consecutive gold medal in the South Asian Games in 2010.
The cash reward, which was declared after Nepal qualified for the World Twenty20, was handed over amidst a ceremony at the National Development Council Hall at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar.
Skipper Paras Khadka shared the podium with Chairman of Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi and was joined by Youth and Sports Minister Ram Kumar Shrestha. The programme was also attended by National Sports Council and Cricket Association of Nepal officials.
