The Commission for the Investigation of the Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Sunday concluded that the current working committee of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has failed to perform their duty leading to a loss of millions of rupees and called on the government to punish the entire committee apart from dissolving it and bring in a new governing body.
The anti-corruption watchdog of the country has alleged the entire 31-member committee to be involved in wrong deeds that led to a loss of 27 million rupees.
“The working ways of the current central committee doesn’t seem to develop cricket according to the expectations and spirit of the Nepali cricket lovers. A new committee with experienced individuals holding clear image and who can develop cricket building a high confidence in players has to be established. CIAA has called on the government and youth and sports ministry to punich the guilty and reformation of a new committee in the cricket body,” a statement from the CIAA read. “In the pretext of the Rs 84 million fine slapped by the International Cricket Council, the CAN officials and members were unable to retrieve the amount because of not performing their duties on time and all 31members should collectively compensate the amount to CAN,” the CIAA said.
“The CAN members have been unable to recover the 18.62 million rupees provided as advance to different individuals since 2001. A draft has been forwarded to the Cricket Association of Nepal, National Sports Council and Youth and Sports Ministry indicating the CAN members needing to recover the collective amount of 27.05 million rupees within three months and inform the CIAA,” the release read.
The CIAA has also ordered the CAN to provide national team cricketers with their salary, motivational allowance and sports equipments. CAN Central Committee Deemed Ineligible by CIAA are :-
