Chand-faction claims it is the only legal body of cricket

A day after country’s supreme sports body directed Chief Executive Officer Bhawana Ghimire to handle all the responsibilities of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), the Chatur Bahadur Chand-led faction on Tuesday claimed that it is the only legitimate body of cricket in the country.

Nepali cricket has been in a crisis after the Chand-led faction held the general ssembly of CAN and subsequently the election forming a new committee. NSC, however, has been calling the new committee ‘illegal’ as it was formed without support from CAN President Tanka Aangbuhang and the sports governing body.

“The election was held according to the mandate given by the general assembly and there is no point in clarifying our status,” said Ashok Nath Pyakurel who was retained to the post of the general secretary. The election had unanimously chosen Chand as its president.

Pyakurel said that the new committee has informed the International Cricket Council about its legitimacy but NSC Member Secretary Keshav Bista has claimed that it will not get any support from the supreme body of world cricket.

Bista, on Monday, said the ICC will support the new committee formed by the government and will work with it. NSC is exercising in forming a new committee seeking a multiparty political agreement.
