Captain De Villiers drag SA to a comfortable victory

With the help of half century from captain AB de Villiers and JP Duminy South Africa has won the first match One Day International against New Zealand by six wickets in the match played at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Tuesday. With this win South Africa lead the three match ODI series against New Zealand by 1-0.


Chasing the target of 231 runs tourist met the target in 48.1 overs losing their four wickets. South Africa who were 97 for 4 in 24.5 overs were lifted by De Villiers and Duminy who added 139 runs for fifth wicket to seal an easy victory against the home side New Zealand.


De Villiers who was elected as the man of the match award made not out 89 runs in 85 balls with nine fours while 58 runs in 72 balls.


Earlier with the help of 99 runs from wicket keeper batsman Luke Ronchi who came to bat at number 7, New Zealand were all out making 230 runs 45.1 overs.


Second ODI of the series between New Zealand and South Africa will be played on October 24 at the same venue.
