The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has decided to keep Pubudu Dassanayake as the coach of the national cricket team till December, 2015.
Dassanayake was hired by the Nepal government last year after CAN said it was not in the financial position to afford him. But his contract with the government is ending on July 15. CAN Acting President Deepak Koirala informed during a press meet on Saturday after their Annual General Meeting that the cricket governing body is in the position to keep Dassanayake for six months after his contract expires.
“After the dissolution of Asian Cricket Counil, we will not be able to get any grant from the regional governing body after December. We can manage Dassanayake until December but no one knows the condition after that. If the government shows willingness to hire him in its own expense, we are ready to have him for long,” said Koirala.
“The coach has given huge success to Nepali cricket team for the last three and four years. We want him to keep as Nepali coach until ICC World Cup in 2018. We will do our best to continue him,” said Koirala.
