CAN officials given clean chit

The Special Court on Thursday has given clean chit to the CAN officials who were charged for corruption.

CAN President Tanka Aangbuhang, vice-presidents Chatur Bahadur Chand, Sunil Man Amatya and Binod Kumar Mainali, general secretary Ashok Nath Pyakuryal, treasurer Raju Babu Shrestha, members Kiran Rana, Thakur Paratap Thapa, Thakur Prasad Pahadi and Purna Bahadur Lama along with National Sports Council engineer Arun Upadhyaya were charge-sheeted for their alleged involvement in the misapproriation of 14.31 million rupees.

Along with the officials the six individuals from different private construction firms were also cleared. The Special Court acquitted that the allegations of corruption charges filed by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) were baseless.

On June 8, 2014 CIAA had filed graft charges against the officials after a revolt from the national team cricketers led to the case.
