The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has increased the monthly sallary of the national team cricketers to Rs 10, 000 — a 100 per cent increment which still looks inadequate following the achievement that came despite of limited resouces and facilities.
An emergency meeting of the cricket governing body decided to double the monthly paycheque for the cricketers who don’t have other source of income. The national team cricketers used to get Rs 5,000 a month.
The meeting also decided to honour each member of the national team qualifying for the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 with Rs 100,000. “The qualification for the ICC World Twenty20 through the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers has lifted the pride of the nation,” said CAN in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The meeting, meanwhile, also raised the player’s welfare fund to two million from one million rupees.CAN has begun providing the national team cricketers with monthly paycheque from 2011. The allowance reveived during the international tours used to be the only income source for the cricketers before departmental teams arrival facilitated notable cricketers with montly income.
ICFC to honour with cash
ICFC Finance Limited has announced a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each to the national cricket team members that qualified for the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 to be held in Bangladesh next year. Nepal qualified for their maiden ICC World Twenty20 on Wednesday after defeating Hong Kong by five wickets in the first playoff at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Nepal are playing against Afghanistan in the semi-final of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers at the same venue on Friday.
