CAN CEO Ghimire gets three-month extension

After going through a series of criticism, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has finally decided to give a three-month extension to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bhawana Ghimire on Wedensday.

A meeting of the cricket governing body decided to hand a three-month extension to Ghimire and Finance Manager Prakash Maharjan whose contract had expired on Tuesday.

CAN had remained mum to clear their stance over the two paid administrators even after the term of the duo ended. On Wednesday, social media was filled with words of criticism on CAN who had earned a widespread praise following few recent decisions and successfully hosting the Phil Hughes Tribute Match on April 11.

Ghimire has been credited much for making the Tribute campaign a huge one, while she has also been appreciated for materializing the players’ contract and signing the biggest amount sponsorship with telecommunication giants Nepal Telecom recently.

The Nepal Telecom’s sponsorship amount of Rs 46.5 million is so far the biggest sponsorship in Nepali sports history.

Apart from the decision, CAN has also decided to hold its General Assembly on May 13 where it will clear the position of CEO and Finance Manager apart from fixing their tenure. CAN will also recruit Cricket Operations Manager and Development Officer for nine cricket regions.
