Region-II (Birgunj) remained in hunt for the semi-finals as they defeated Region-I (Biratnagar) with a slim three-wicket victory at the Pulchowk Engineering College grounds on Thursday.
Electing to field first in the Group ‘A’ game, Birgunj dismissed Biratnagar for a lowly 170 in 32 overs before their top and middle order contributed in taking the team to 173-7 in 46.1 overs. It was their second victory in three matches and staying at the third spot on points table after getting tied on points with Region-V Nepalgunj. TAC lead the table with six points from three matches.
Birgunj lost opener Rabi Thapa (zero) and Hashim Ansari (15) early but Amit Shrestha scored some runs to ease the chase. Amit made 31 off 39 with four boundaries. After the dismissal of Amit, rest of the Birgunj batsmen took the responsibility to anchor their sail.
Anil Sah was their next best contributor making 30 off 59 with one boundary, while Suraj Prasad Kurmi (29), Aanshu Kandoi (28 not out) and Yashin Hawari (22) chipped in valuable runs. Siddhant Lohani and Puspa Thapa picked up two wickets each for Biratnagar.
Earlier, Sunny Pun made 27 off 22 with five boundaries form the top order but Biratnagar were quickly reduced to 84-6 with three wickets from Udit Shrestha doing the damage.
Mehboob Alam and Siddhant kept Biratnagar in the game with a 75-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Alam made 57 off 64 with five fours and a six but his run out in the 30th over resumed their collapse. Biratnagar lost their last four wickets for just 11 runs.
Siddhant made 34 from 42 deliveries hitting six boundaries. Hasim Ansari also picked up two wickets for Birgunj.
