Region-I Biratnagar opened their account in the Wai Wai U-16 Girls’ National Cricket Tournament defeating Region-VIII (Pokhara) by 85 runs in Sarlahi on Friday.
In the Group ‘B’ match, Biratnagar made a 128-6 in 20 overs before a four-wicket haul from Apsari Begam skittled out Pokhara for just 43 runs in 10.1 overs. Nima Tamang and Sita Prasai also picked up two wickets each in Biratnagar’s convincing victory.
Rejika Bhandari (14) was the only Pokhara batswoman to make runs in double figures. Begam finished with 4-11 in 3.1 overs. The second best wicket takers of the day also dazzled with the bat after Geeta made a 33-ball 36 with six boundaries. Nima scored 22 off 49.
In a dead rubber in Group ‘A’, Region-IV (Bhairahawa) routed Region-II (Birgunj) by nine wickets. Both the teams are already out from the tournament with Bhairahawa bidding farewell with their only victory in the group stage. Region-VII (Janakpur) and Region-IX (Dhangadhi) are already in the semi-finals from the group.
Bhairahawa restricted Birgunj to 82-9 in 20 overs before reaching 83-1 with nine overs to spare. Mahima Rana top scored with a 35-ball 25 not out for Bhairahawa with four boundaries. Manisha Rana (nine) and Salina Adhikari (eight not out) were other scorers for them.
Aarati Koirala returned the figures of 3-8 from 3.5 overs for Bhairahawa. Divyani Karna posted a match-high 39 off 48 with six hits to the fence for Birgunj.
