Bikram Thagunna treble rocks Province 5

Fast bowler Bikram Thagunna starred with a rare-hat-trick in domestic cricket as Province 7 hammered Province 5 by 118 runs to stake their claims for the semi-finals of the Manmohan Memorial Cup One Day National cricket tournament in Inaruwa on Tuesday.

Electing to bat first, Roshan Adhikari and Lokesh Bam bailed out their team from trouble with half centuries in a 128 run stand for the fifth wicket leading Province 7 to 244-8 in 50 overs. Two early strikes from Narayan Dev Joshi jolted Province 5 before Bikram paralysed the batting order taking a hat-trick that bundled out the opponents for just 126 runs in 28.3 overs.

Bikram, who will represent Gyanendra Malla-led Kathmandu Goldens in the upcoming Dhangadhi Premier League, began his hat-trick by getting rid of Rajbir Singh (nine). He then removed Prakash KC and Saurav Khanal consecutively for ducks to complete the hat-trick.

Province 5 hardly recovered from that burst of fast bowling display before getting folded for a low total, a day after they defeated Indian team Supaul by 24 runs. Province 7 now can enter the semi-finals even if they lose their match against Supaul by slim margin. However, if Province 7 lose to Supaul by a huge margin, the three teams will be tied on net run rate in the race for the last four.

Krishna Karki was the lone fighter for Province 5 making a 58-ball 36 with five fours and a six. Sandip Rajali (14), Bikram Bhushal (11) and opener Subhendu Pandey (11) were other batsmen to make runs in double figures for Province 5.

Man-of-the-match Bikram returned the figures of 4-38 from 8.3 overs, while Narayan and Sher Malla also took two wickets apiece.

Earlier, Province 7 had a decent start after Bipin Rawal (24) and Khadka Bohora (21) added 44 runs for the first wicket. Dipendra Thapa (21) also got the start but the top order failed to convert before Province 7 were reduced to 74-4 in 20.3 overs.

Roshan and Lokesh then consolidated the innings with a century partnership hitting half centuries. Lokesh played fluently in his 62-ball 68 that included four boundaries and three sixes. Roshan played role of an anchor to make 59 off 102 balls hitting five boundaries and a six.

Man Bahadur Lama took 3-31 from 10 overs for Province 5. Rupesh Kurmi and Bikram Bhushal also picked up two wickets each for the losing side.
