Bhuwan retains U-19 captaincy

Bhuwan Karki retained captaincy as the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced a 22-member squad for the second round of selection for the ACC U-19 Asia Cup. 


Bhuwan  — a Region No 9 (Mahendranagar) all rounder — was among the five players named from his region. Dipendra Airee was axed from the preliminary 33, while Yagya Man Kumal, Lalit Singh Bhandari, Sunil Dhamala and Raju Rijal made the cut. Bhuwan had led the national team that finished fourth in the ACC U-19 Elite in Malaysia in May. 


Prakash Bista ‘B’, Bibhatsu Thapa and Som Pal Kami were picked up from U-19 champions Region No 3 (Kathmandu) with Ashish Dhami and Prakash Bista ‘A’ losing their place. Amit Shrestha, Ram Naresh Giri, Arif Sheikh and Irshad Ahmed were the Region No 2 (Birgunj) playes to sneak in for the second round of closed-camp. Suraj Prasad Kurmi was omitted. 


Somesh Yadav and Siddhant Lohani retained their place from Region No 1 (Biratnagar). Mobin Ali and Kali Charan Yadav faced the cut. Hari Shankar Sah and Rahul Pratap Singh from Region No VII (Janakpur) were picked up eliminating Gopal Singh and Abhishek Jha. Abhishek was declared the best bowler of the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament.


Yogendra Karki was left out from Region No 6 (Baitadi) with Dilip Nath and Prem Tamang going through. Aakash Bista and Amar Singh Routela both were picked up from Region No 5 (Nepalgunj), while Sushan Bhari from Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) and Sushil Kandel from Region No 8 (Pokhara) were the only representatives from their region. 


Dipendra Yadav of Bhairahawa and Nischal Pandey of Pokhara lost their place. Nischal was the part of the national team that played the ACC U-19 Elite in Malaysia earlier this year. The ACC U-19 Asia Cup begins in the United Arab Emirates from December 28 to January 4.


Eight players will further face exit for the Asia Cup where Nepal are pitted in Group ‘A’ alongside India, Pakistan and hosts UAE in the Asia Cup which is into its second edition.
