Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) bounced back from their heartbreaking loss against Region No 8 (Pokhara) defeating Region No 7 (Janakapur) in the Wai Wai U-19 National Cricket Tournament on Sunday.
In the 45-over-a-side Group ‘A’ match at the Pulchowk Engineering College grounds, Janakpur were bundled out for 153 runs in 42.4 overs following a collective bowling effor from Bhairahawa who rode on a fine half century from Sandeep Sunar reaching 157-4 in 29 overs.
Bhairahawa lost opener Nur Dhoj Sen (one) early in their innings but Sandeep went on to shared 81 runs for the second wicket with Shankar Rana reaching close to triple figures.
Sushant Mandal removed Shankar after he made an important 37 from 42 balls with four boundaries. Sushant also picked up the wicket of Kushal Bhurtel (14) reducing Bhairahawa to 115-4 in 21 overs. A run out of Bishal Sunar (two) made it 119-4.
Sandeep, however, kept playing his shots and along with Saurav Khanal (15 not out) took the team safely home. Man-of-the-match Sandeep made an enterprising 77 off 97 with 12 boundaries.
Earlier, Pravash Jha (15) and Chandan Jha (19) gave Janakpur a 19-run opening wicket start but they kept losing wickets after the stand. From 108-8, Samsad Sheikh and Sushant (17) pushed the total to respectability.
Samsad was unbeaten on 28 off 40 with four boundaries, while Samsad hit one six and a four in 16 balls. Ek Lakh Ahamad, Shaheb Alam and Rahul Bhattarai picked up two wickets each for Bhairahawa. Bishal and Sandeep also had one victim each.
