BCF sponsors Rs 1.5 million for Tribute event

Basant Chaudhary Foundation (BCF), a charity of Chaudhary Group, has sponsored Rs 1.5 million for the Phil Hughes Tribute Campaign that includes a Tribute Match and Mt Everest Expedition.


Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is hosting a 63-over Phil Hughes Tribute Match on April 11 at the Tribhuvan University Stadium in memory of the late Australian cricketer who had died on November 27 after suffering a head injury during a Sheffield Shield match against South Australia.


Hughes, a New South Wales player, was batting on 63 before he was hit by the lethal delivery. The visiting players from Australia and Nepali national cricketers will combine to form two teams for the 63-over game with each side playing 31.3 overs.


CAN CEO Bhawana Ghimire said the sponsored amount will be invested in the Mt Everest expedition a following event after Tribute Match. An expedition team led by mountaineer Chhurim Sherpa will carry Hughes’ bat and part of his jersey to place it at the top of the world.


During a press conference on Friday, BCF representative and BL Conglomerate Executive Director Paras Shakya said: “There is life beyond business and we are committed to our responsibility towards the society. BCF has been actively nurturing and promoting several humanitarian causes.”


“Our support to the Philip Hughes Tribute event is perfectly in line with out corporate philosophy,” said Shakya.


CAN Acting President Deepak Koirala said the Tribute Match is the best honour given to Hughes adding: “Match like these will also be helpful in promoting domestic tourism. We are hopeful that this will strengthen our relations with CricketAustralia.”
