Nepal’s batting worries deepened further after they were restricted to 84-7 in their second warm-up match of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers against UAE which they lost by 20 runs under D/L method.
Electing to bat first, Nepal were folded cheaply in the 18-over-a-side game after the openers and middle order completely flopped with Sharad Vesawkar top scoring in the game with unbeaten 38 runs.
UAE had no trouble in their chase as they reached 81-2 in 14 overs before rain intervened and were declared winners by 20 runs. Faizan Asif (24) and Amjad Ali (23 not out) eased the chase for UAE.
Earlier, Nepal’s opening failures carried on with Subash Khakurel (one) and Sagar Pun (one) dismissed with just four runs on the board. The scores soon read 13-3 when skipper Paras Khadka (five) departed.
After Gyanendra Malla (13) and Rajesh Pulami Magar (one) but the slide resumed after both were dismissed in a space of seven runs. Binod Bhandari (duck) was next to go as the scores read 40-6 in 9.4 overs.
Sharad and Pradeep Airee then tried to avoid a collapse with a 32-run partnership for the seventh wicket in a difficult pitch to bat on. Pradeep was out for a 19-ball 13 while Sharad remained unbeaten in his 37-ball innings with two fours and a six.
Manjula Guruge picked up 3-12 from four overs and Mohammad Shahzad had two scalps. Sompal Kami was seven not out from seven balls. For Nepal, Jitendra Mukhiya and Sagar Pun took a wicket each.
