Tamim Iqbal has joined the legions of international stars to compete in the Everest Premier League as Bhairahawa Gladiators on Thursday, unofficially, announced him as their new foreign recruit.
Gladiators, the two-time finalists, posted a trivia on its social media clearly hinting towards the arrival of Iqbal. With a haul of experience at 32, and with still much of career left in him, Iqbal can be considered as the biggest name to be associated with Nepal’s top franchise Twenty20 tournament.
Sri Lanka Southpaw Upula Tharanga and another Sinhalese fast bowler Dhammika Prasad. Gladiators, a team managed by former national team coach Pubudu Dassanayake, had also roped in Dinesh Chandimal but the wicketkeeper batsman pulled out as he received a call-up from the national team.
EPL, into its fourth edition, has attracted a decent number of international stars ever since including at least three foreign recruits was made mandatory in 2017. Former Pakistan skipper and flamboyant allrounder Shahid Afridi is another big name that has been confirmed by Kathmandu Kings XI.
Tamim has played 219 one dayers with Bangladeshi record of 14 centuries. He has also featured in 78 Twenty20 Internationals and 64 Tests.
He is the only Tigers’ batsman to make Twenty20 International ton which he did against Oman during the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 where he was the leading run scorer. Tamim was also included in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy team of the tournament with 293 runs.
