Region-VI (Baitadi) performed with the bat to hammer Region-III (Kathmandu) by 119 runs for their second consecutive victory in the Senior One Day National Cricket Tournament at the Pulchowk Engineering College grounds on Wednesday.
Modest contributions from Dilip Nath and Santosh Bhatt from the middle order and a gritty innings from Yogendra Karki lifted Baitadi to 302 all out in 50 overs. Kathmandu were restricted to 183-9 in 50 overs with all Baitadi bowlers getting amongst the wicket.
Kathmandu were reduced to 46-5 in 16.4 overs before Bhupendra Thapa Chhetri and Rupesh Shrivastav shared 48 runs for the sixth wicket. Rupesh made 28 off 30 with six boundaries. After Rupesh’s departure Bhupendra shared another 35 with Ritesh Singh that pushed their total to respectability.
Bhupendra was out for 46 off 107 with five fours and a six. Ritesh was 27 not out from 48 balls hitting five boundaries. Kamal Airee was the pick of the Baitadi bowlers taking 3-25 from 10 overs, while Prem Tamang took 2-31 from his 10. Yogendra, Basant Khatri, Santosh and Prashant Bist also had one scalp apiece for Baitadi.
Earlier, opener Roshan Nepali (31) and Dilip made gave some decent score to Baitadi but they were still not safe at 122-4 in 23.4 overs. Dilip made 40 off 47 with four boundaries and a six.
Yogendra then shared two big partnerships that helped Baitadi pile up a mammoth. Yogendra shared 69 runs for the fifth wicket with Santosh and 63 for the seventh with Prashant (29 not out. Yogendra made 83 off 72 with 12 boundaries, while Santosh made 47 off 56 with four boundaries and two sixes.
Ritesh Singh picked up 4-58 from 10 overs and Prashanna Shakya took 2-42 from eight. Rupesh, Dipendra Pyakurel and Sudeep Sharma also picked up a wicket each.
