Nepal crash to shock defeat against Malaysia

Nepal crashed to a shocking 22-run defeat at the hands of Malaysia losing their first match against the country in the last 11 years.

Electing to bat first, Syed Aziz led the way with the bat as Malaysia built on to a challenging 154-6 in 20 overs. Nepal lost Kushal Malla (duck) in the first over and former skipper Paras Khadka with 22 runs on the board. Captan Gyanendra Malla and his deputy Dipendra Singh Airee held firm with a half century stand before Nepal were bundled out for just 132 in 19.4 overs.

Nepal were in the driving seat at 89-2 by the 13th over before they lost eight wickets with the addition of just 43 runs. Gyanendra shared 67 runs for the third wicket with Dipendra before handing a catch to Syed off Pavandeep Singh.

21 runs later Dipendra departed as Nepal's middle order terribly failed. Pawan Sarraf (19) was the only remaining batsman to make runs in double figures. Dipendra and Gyanendra made 38 runs each with the captain striking three fours and a six.

Sharvin Muniandy was the pick of the Malaysia bowlers taking 4-13 from 3.5 overs. Pavandeep, Syazrul Idrus and Khizar Durrani took two wickets apiece for the Malaysians.

Earlier, leggie Sandeep Lamichhane celebrate a personal milestone becoming country's first cricketer with 100 Twenty20 wickets striking in his first and the team's third over. He picked up two more wickets reducing Malaysia to 53-3 before Syed anchored the Malaysian innings.

He shared 34 runs for the fourth wicket with skipper Ahmed Faiz and a match-winning 67 for the sixth with Aminuddin Ramly (29). Syed struck 51 off 35 with four boundaries and two sixes.

Sandeep took 3-22 from four overs and Abinash Bohora returned the figures of 2-39 from four overs.
