Nepal to set up closed-camp in Pokhara for USA, Oman home fixtures

Jan 04, 2020 | CN Staff |

Nepali national cricket team will have its training camp in Pokhara for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 fixtures against the USA and Oman.

Nepal are hosting the two teams at the TU ground from February 5-12 to open their campaign for the road to 2023 ICC 50-over World Cup. Since the TU ground is currently under maintenance, the senior national team will have their camp set up in Pokhara.

CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand confirmed cricketingnepal.com about national team's closed-camp planned for Pokhara. "There is only one month left for the series. We are currently working on the outfield and playing pitches so its tough to have training at the TU ground. There is Mulpani as another option for us but we are initiating to set the camp in Pokhara," Chand told cricketingnepal.com.

Most of the members of the national team are currently busy in the MM Cup in Itahari. We will make a final call on when and where to set up the camp. The CAN board is going to meet within two days and we will come up with a decision," informed Chand.

What is League 2?

The League 2 is second rung tournament of ICC for the non-Test playing nations after the Super League which is contested by all 12 Test nations along with the Netherlands. Namibia, Papua New Guinea, Scotland and United Arab Emirates are other four teams in the League 2.

Out of the seven teams in the League 2, the top three teams will qualify for the 2022 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier which will be joined by the five lower-ranked teams from the Super League. The bottom four from League 2 will join the six-team ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Playoff.

One team each from the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League A and League B will join the bottom four teams of League 2 in the Qualifier Playoff. Top two teams from the Qualifier Playoff will contest in the 10-team World Cup Qualifier. Only the top two teams from the World Cup Qualifier will make it to the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
