Biratnagar Titans made a strong statement that they are not just making numbers at the Pokhara Premier League after crushing defending champions Pokhara Paltan by 45 runs in their second match.

While holders Paltan crashed to their second consecutive defeat, Titans opened their account to recover from a five-run defeat at the hands of Dhangadhi Blues in a 118-run chase.

Indian recruit Puneet Mehra laid the foundation for a big Titans' victory after he lifted the team from a precarious position to a formidable total of 145-5 in 20 overs. Jitendra Mukhiya seized the early initiative with prized scalps of Kushal Bhurtel and Ravi Inder Singh (duck) in a single over as Paltan were bundled out for just 100 in 19.5 overs.

Paltan were going good when Kushal Bhurtel (24) struck three sixes and a four in his 28-run partnership with Aasif Sheikh (13). But they were quickly put to back foot after Jitendra removed the opener and bowled Ravi Inder.

Rohit Paudel tried to hold the innings with a 39-run partnership for the third wicket with Aasif Sheikh (13). Titans, however, clawed their way back with quick wickets of Aasif, Kushal Malla and Sharad Vesawkar as Paltan lost their last eight wickets for just 33 runs.

Kishor Mahato took 3-21 from 3.5 overs for Titans, while Muhammad Zaid Alam made crucial breakthroughs removing Sharad and Rohit. Rohit made 32 off 38 with three fours and a six.

Earlier, Alam (26) and Sunil Dhamala gave a decent start to Titans adding 50 runs for the first wicket but Paltan bowlers kept their opponent batsmen at check. Titans were going slow at 76-5 in 15 overs before Puneet struck. He slammed a 26-ball 61 to take Titans close to 150.

Puneet stroked five boundaries and four sixes. Sunil chipped in a 40-ball 36 with two sixes and as many boundaries. Sharad took 2-16 from two overs for Paltan.
