Nepali women suffer 10-wicket loss to B'desh

In the women's cricket in Pokhara, Nepal were handed a 10-wicket defeat by Bangladesh at the Pokhara Stadium cricket ground. Put in to bat first, Nepal were bundled out for just 50 runs in 19.2 overs before Bangladesh reached the target in just 7.4 overs.

Ayesha Rahman remained unbeaten on 26 and her opening partner Murshida Khatoon made 23 to complete a convincing victory for Bangladesh. Only three Nepal batswomen were able to reach double figures.

Skipper Rubina Chhetri (13), Sonu Khadka (12) and Indu Verma (10) offered some resistance against a strong Bangladeshi bowling attack. Rabiya Khan completed a four-wicket haul for Bangladesh.

Nepal had won the first group match against Maldives. Nepal won in five deliveries against Maldives completing the chase of 17 runs without losing any wickets. Nepal will play their last match of the group stage against Sri Lanka on Friday.

Nepal will need to win the match against Sri Lanka to entertain any chance of reaching the finals. The top two teams of the league stage will vie for the gold whereas third and fourth placed teams will fight for bronze.

In the men's cricket at the TU ground, Bangladesh hammered Maldives by 109 runs. Soumya Sarkar (46) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (49) contributed with big scores as Bangladesh reached 174-4 in 20 overs. Tanvir Aslam then picked up five wickets as Maldives were shut down for 65 all out in 19.2 overs.

In another match, opener Pathum Nissanka (76) and Nishan Madushanka (65) hit half centuries in Sri Lanka U-23's 173-run crushing of Bhutan. Sri Lanka posted a mammoth 248-4 before skittling out Bhutan for 75 in 18.4 overs.
