The fourth edition of the Everest Premier League has been set for February 29 to March 14, organisers Everest Premier League Pvt Ltd announced on Monday.

EPL is one of the most successful franchise cricket tournament of Nepal having already seen the participation of some of the big players in world cricket – the last season saw the inclusion of South African juggernaut Richard Levi who played for Pokhara Rhinos.

Defending champions Lalitpur Patriots, Biratnagar Warriors, Chitwan Tigers, Kathmandu Kings XI and Bhairahawa Gladiators are the five other teams in the colourful EPL which normally draws a sizeable audience at the Tribhuvan University Stadium grounds. Warriors had won the second edition, while Gladiators are two-times runners-up.

Panchakanya Tez had won the first edition of the tournament but it was held without the inclusion of international cricketers and auction of domestic players. According to the organisers, the dates for this season were shifted from December to February to allow late starts to morning matches and organize them in pleason weather conditions.

International production team

The organisers said they are in negotiations with foreign production companies to deliver an international quality broadcast with the use of state-of-the-art equipments. "Fans can be excited about witnessing the same broadcast level as in international matches for the first time in a Nepali sports event," said a statement from the organisers.

Iconic players made mandatory

EPL has also made it mandatory for the franchises to include at least one big name from international cricket as the Iconic player. The Iconic players are supposed to be from Test playing nation. EPL also have strategic cricketers among the home-grown players. The strategic players didn't go under the hammer.

"The inclusion of Iconic players shall ensure that some big names in international cricket feature in this season and the franchises have already begun with the necessary negotiations. The next season of EPL be a class-apart event and is sure to give the spectators and viewers a spectacular event, the likes of which they've only seen in international leagues. We hope that a start in the extra day of a leap year will prove auspicious and fans can enjoy more in the beautiful weather during spring time in Kathmandu," EPL Managing Director Aamir Akhtar said in the release.
