Nepal line-up four big Twenty20 International matches in Oman

Aug 09, 2019 | CN Staff |

Nepal have lined-up four exciting Twenty20 International fixtures against Test nation Ireland along with the Netherlands, Hong Kong and Oman from October 5-10.

Oman are hosting the five-nation tournament as a build to the teams' participation for the ICC Twenty20 World Cup Global Qualifiers to be held in the United Arab Emirates in October and November. The 14-team Global Qualifiers will send six teams into the 2020 ICC Twenty20 World Cup to be held in Australia.

Nepal, however, will rue the opportunity they wasted recently in Singapore after a defeat against the hosts deprived them of the opportunity in a five-team Asia Qualifier. The team, however, will have something to cheer about after getting the opportunity to at least play four strong opponents.

The league tournament will be played at the Oman Cricket Turf in Muscat with Nepal's first match slated against Associate archrivals Hong Kong on October 6. They next play the Dutch side on October 7 and Ireland on October 9. The tournament will then wrap up with the Nepal versus Oman clash on October 10.

Nepal had a golden opportunity to once again exhibit their cricketing prowess at the global stage but a humiliating defeat against Singapore in a winner-takes-all last league game gave them a harsh reality check whether they were really fit for the game's shortest version or not.

Nepal's last appearance in the game's global stage was in the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 but since then they have not been able to make it to the tournament. The team hit the rock bottom after for the first time in seven years they failed to make it to the Global Qualifiers last month.
