Sompal Kami became second Nepali player after Sandeep Lamichhane to play an international franchise league but had a day to forget after he was smashed for 33 runs in two overs in the Global T20 Canada on Saturday.

The Nepali fast bowling allrounder was playing his first match for the Winnipeg Hawks after he was purchased for a price of $3000. Hawks made merry at the pitch and posted 195-6 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first.

Shaiman Anwar top scored for them with 35-ball 62 that included ten fours and two sixes. Hawks, however, were unable to defend the target and Royals reached the target with 14 balls to spare for an eight-wicket victory.

Player-of-the-match Anshuman Rath was unbeaten at 87 runs off 50 balls hitting nine fours and four sixes.

Sompal was asked to bowl in the 10th over when Royals were batting at 82-1. He gave away 15 runs that included three wides. He was hammered for a six by  Mohammad Hafeez in the second ball of the over.

Skipper Jean-Paul Duminy called back Sompal in the 16th where he conceded 18 runs. He was smashed for two sixes and a four in that over. Anshuman and James Neesham hit a six each against Sompal.

Sandeep smashed for 24 in first over but fights back

Young leggie Sandeep also played his first match for Toronto Nationals the excitement to see him bowl was soon killed by Scottish George Munsey after the left hammered him for two sixes and three boundaries in the first over.

Munsey innings provided the impetus for Brampton Wolves who went to post a mammoth 222-6 in 20 overs. National remained in chase but could only muster 211-7. Sandeep had a fine outing last year but his debut this season was made sour after Munsey unsettled the bowler with his reverse sweeps and switch hits.

Indian legend Yuvraj Singh, however, kept faith on the leg spinner bringing him back in the eighth over and he repaid. He removed Kiwi Colin Munro and conceded just three runs in the over. His next two overs went for 17 runs.
