Sandeep's poor economy not a problem for Delhi Capitals

Apr 07, 2019 | Cricketingnepal |

Nepali leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane was smashed for 46 runs but his most expensive bowling figures in this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) hardly mattered as Delhi Capitals registered their third victory in the tournament.

At the away match in Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Capitals defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by four wickets as problems for the Virat Kohli dug deeper in the current season. Bangalore have now lost their six matches on trot and could be the first team to get knocked out from the playoff race.

Batting first, Bangalore made 149-8 in 20 overs before a 50-ball 67 from skipper Shreyas Iyer steered Capitals to 152-6 in 18.5 overs. Capitals climbed to the fifth spot in points table with six points from six matches.

Sandeep, who had so far been the most economical bowlers for Capitals in all the matches he featured for with the franchise, enjoyed a personal milestone taking 50 wickets in Twenty20 after he scalped England southpaw Moeen Ali.

In just over a year after he picked up the wicket of Parthiv Patel in his debut in Twenty20 with last season's IPL game against Bangalore, Sandeep had Ali stumped by Rishab Pant for his 50th victim. He has so far played 40 Twenty20s.

He also became the first Nepali bowler to reach the milestone with veteran left arm spinner Basanta Regmi behind him with 46 wickets.

His last two overs particularly destroyed his figures after he was hit for 11 runs in the third and 19 runs in the fourth. He conceded 10 and six runs in the first two overs. Kohli struck Sandeep for two sixes in his fourth over. Sandeep has so far taken five wickets in the four matches he has played with an economy of 8.37. His best bowling figures are 2-27.
